Terry Lanni, MGM Mirage Inc. Chairman, spoke at the fourth quadrennial Racing Congress and asked the gaming companies and racetracks to collaborate in pushing legalization of more forms of online gambling. Today only pari-mutuel racing is excluded from the law that bans online gambling.
Lanni spoker during the first general session of the Thoroughbred Racing Association and Harness Tracks of America joint annual meeting that took place at the Bellagio in Las Vegas last Wednesday. He said that the entering of established gaming companies to the online gambling industry would give the gamblers confidence.
According to a poll cited by Lanni during the meeting, over 60 percent of the online gamblers are worried in some level whether they would receive their payouts from the online gambling sites. He showed another statistics showing the American people spend large amount of money on sports betting. Bets worth about 9.45 million dollars were placed in Nevada sportsbooks during the recent Super Bowl, comparing to about 1 billion dollars spent offshore.
