On Friday a bill passed the House by a vote of 51 to 13 to hold casino and track winnings of anyone found to owe child support. The bill aimed at stopping dead beat parents from gambling away their child support payments by playing at poker rooms and casinos.
The bill was approved by the House and sent to the Senate. The bill will require racetracks and casinos to run the winners Social Security number against a dead beat parent database before making any payments over $600 at the racetrack or $1,200 in the casinos.
Anytime a winner's Social Security number gets a hit ion the data base the winnings will be held and sent to a government agency that will send it to the child and deduct the amount from the deadbeats account.
The system only takes a few seconds to get a hit and is very simply to use. The cashier at the casino or racetrack just needs to call a state sponsored telephone number then when prompted to do so enter the 9 digit number and in 30 seconds you will have your answer.
"When a delinquent parent throws child support money into the slot machines, the bill will allow the winnings to go to the child. We're sending a strong message to deadbeat parents that gambling away child support money wont be tolerated," said one rep.
