Greektown Casino is still looking for a location for its hotel. It started considering the option of building the 15 story hotel outside Greekstown.
The casino failed in signing a lease deal with the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The building of the hotel is delayed, while the other two Detroit casinos MGM Grand Detroit Casino and MotorCity Casino have been building on their hotel for few months now.
According to Aaron Payment, chairperson of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, which owns the casino, they are waiting for Detroit City Council approval before closing a deal to buy a parking lot at Monroe and St. Antoine. The casino has a plan to build an additional 25,000 square feet gambling area, a spa, and a theater with between 1,200 and 1,500 seats.
