Online Sportsbook Broken at Taipei

2006-03-13 11:03:00
Taipei County police suspects the online sports book earned about 1 billion NT dollars from wagers.

Taipei County police arrested the operator of an online sports betting site on Sunday. The illegal operation earned between 500 million NT dollars and 1 billion NT dollars from wagers on the last World Baseball Classic event.

The online sports book site operator was arrested at the motorcycle repair shop, which used to serve as a base of the illegal operation. According to the police chief Chen Jin-chen, the website had a misleading homepage which looked like a regular sports site.

The sports betting site offered wagers on different international sports events including American basketball, and Taiwanese and Japanese baseball and more. The minimum bet was 100 NT dollars. The sports book collected 1 percent of every financial transaction. Chen believed they earned about 10 million dollars only from commissions.
