Poker Tips
To improve your game, here are a number of poker tips and suggestions that will help you extend your poker playing time.
- Choose a poker game that you are very familiar with. You should know the rules and odds well. If you aren't familiar, play poker for free until you get the hang of it.
- Know the difference between regular poker and online casino gaming. Regular casino playing might set you up against expert players.
- Prefer online poker for your opponents will most likely be at your same level.
- Suffering from a run of losses. Now is the time to get up and leave. Go play another casino game such as craps, blackjack or the slot machines to relax. You can always come back later after you have freshened up and rested.
- Study Poker! Study Poker! Study Poker!
- Practice Poker! Practice Poker! Practice Poker!
- Expect to lose occasionally while gambling.
- Never be intimidated.
- When you see players acting nonchalant as if they aren't in the game, it's a sign that they have very strong cards and vice versa. In simple words, if a poker player acts like he has strong cards, this might mean that he has weak cards. If a poker player acts like he has weak cards or acts uninterested, this might prove that instead he has very strong cards.
- You will inevitably suffer from anxiety when you find yourself in tight situations whether at an online casino or at a land casino. This is termed the "Fight or Flight" stimulus response in psychology. It is supposed to go back to the days when we were cavemen/cave women. Anxiety causes actual physical changes such as trembling hands, expanding of the chest, voice changes, flexing of muscles, eye pupil dilation, palpitating heart rate and dry throat. Watch out for these characteristics while gambling. If someone seems to be anxious this should tell you that he is getting ready to confront other poker players. Likewise, if he looks too relaxed, it should tell you that he means to fold.
- Again, relating to the eyes. It is common for players to quickly glance at their chips if they connect with the board after a Flop for example. This may be a subconscious reaction, but the player is already planning his attack.
- Eyes rarely lie. Try and read your poker opponents' cards by reading the jubilance or fear in their eyes. You will find quite a few players wearing sunglasses even inside the casino. Now you know why they do this. Some tips:
- Poker players can't help but stare at big hole cards, so if one is staring a bit longer than usual you've got him.
- Poker players, who are looking to steal the pot, may look left to see if those who haven't acted have quickly glanced at their cards and are likely to fold.
- Poker players may try to question you about your hand. Don't we all know that rarely can we lie while looking directly into someone else's eyes?
- Just like the eyes, whether you want to or not your face usually shows jubilee or disappointment. Some poker players try to avoid displaying their face by either wearing hats or by looking down. What could your face reveal? These could be nervousness (a weak hand,0), repetitive characteristics, obvious unhappiness in your face when your hand is weak or a show of confidence when your hand is strong.
- You might observe some poker players frequently taking another look at their hole cards when, for example, the board is showing a potential 3 card flush draw. This is an easy give-away that this player is checking if his cards make up any sequence. Now is the time to watch his face very carefully.
- Check out how your poker opponents are playing. Usually, they all play according to a set pattern. Learn it and you will be able to read their cards. This is especially important when gambling at online casinos.
- Play a steady hand.
- Have fun.
As you will have noticed, the basic strategy of playing poker is looking carefully at your opponents. Remember that the goal isn't to get a high hand but to beat your fellow poker players.
